Neighborhood Cleanup
June 8th, 2008Thank You Thank You Thank You to everyone that took time out to serve the Summit Neighborhood Saturday. It was such a blessing to serve with each of you, to see the way Jesus’ body works together to accomplish bringing Jesus’ Kingdom to earth in such a tangible way.
If you experienced a cool God story during the day feel free to let us know in a comment or email.

Anyone up for a Roadtrip this summer?
June 6th, 2008We just received an email of a need that has come up. If you’ve got the time and the transport it could be a fun trip that would impact lives oversees…
“Needed: Adventurous people with a Van needed to go on a Road Trip halfway to Texas to transport goods to be sent to Sudan, Africa”
If you are interested, please contact Andrea at afarenga@malone.edu for details”
Refuge
June 3rd, 2008We’ve been grilling out and playing cornhole and cards with the men staying at Refuge of Hope for over 5 months now, and God is using that time on Monday nights to change my life. Monday nights are the highlight of my week - for in many of these men I’ve met I’ve found humility, acceptance, refreshing realness, not a hint of religion, but instead the grace of Jesus. The men that I first viewed as “homeless” men I was going to help have become friends who God is using to encourage me further in the grace of His Son. It is no longer “us and them” but “we”.
Canton Christian Home
May 15th, 2008Our small group decided to serve at the Canton Christian Home. The CCH is a place for senior citizens who either live independently, with assistance, or for individuals who need health care.
We held an ice cream social! My job was to transport the people from their rooms to the activity center, and then back to their rooms. Megan was the “scooper” and aided in passing the ice cream to the folks who attended. We had at least 50 people who came to share in the event.
In between the transporting, I had the chance to sit down and talk with a lady named Ida. She is 90 years old. They sat her at a table by herself, so I thought I would keep her company. It was the best 30 minutes I have spent in awhile. She was so happy for me to be sitting with her. She beamed about her kids and grandkids (repeating the same thing about 4 times). She talked about her late husband and her boating trips to Portage Lakes. Family was, and still is, important to her. Ida made me feel special. Not because I was being a friend to her, but because she was being a friend to me. We joked. We laughed. We became friends….It is hard to believe that these folks were our age at one time and now some of them can’t eat ice cream with their own hands.
Thank you God for this experience and for allowing Yourself to work through us as we continue to assist those at the CCH
